“Smart” resuscitation refers to a paradigm shift from one-size-fits-all resuscitation protocol towards patient-specific resuscitation. Under the current one-size-fits-all approach to resuscitation, patients often receive incorrect or delayed treatment because defibrillator software does not evaluate their real-time conditions. The smart resuscitation project involves development of a suite of individual artificial intelligence algorithms to guide patient-specific cardiac arrest treatment, all while allowing rescuers to maintain blood flow with continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This suite of algorithms can equip automated external defibrillators with intelligence to evaluate a patient’s physiologic status, guiding rescuer administration of treatments targeted to the patient's real-time conditions and maximizing the chance of successful resuscitation.
